[Reparative regeneration of bone tissue in white rats administered metabolically active organic acids in the diet]

The effect of the addition into the diet of succinic and hydroxysuccinic acids on the reparative process was studied in white rats with experimental healing of the diaphysial fracture of the thigh. The feeding of rats of succinic acid (1 g per animal during experiment) for 10 days led to a significantly higher chemical maturity of the callus (low content of organic components and high content of mineral substances). An opposite effect was revealed in analogous experiments with hydroxysuccinic acid. The data obtained may serve the theoretical basis for the design of optimal diets for patients with injuries to the bones.
