Multicomponent strategies for synthesizing naphthyridine derivatives: recent advances and mechanistic insights

Abstract:
Naphthyridine is a promising bicyclic aromatic N-heterocycle that has applications in pharmaceuticals, materials science, and catalysis. The synthesis of naphthyridine derivatives has garnered significant attention due to their broad range of biological activities and potential pharmaceutical applications. This review presents a comprehensive overview of recent advancements in the synthesis of naphthyridine derivatives by one-pot multicomponent reactions (MCRs). Efficiency, atom economy, and structural diversity have made MCRs a powerful tool in organic synthesis. This article focuses on various MCR strategies employed in the construction of naphthyridine scaffolds, highlighting innovative methodologies, reaction mechanisms, and the scope of substrate applicability. This review aims to provide researchers with valuable resources on current trends and future directions in the field of naphthyridine chemistry, fostering further exploration and innovation in this dynamic area of organic synthesis.
