    Summary

    Area of Science:

    • Neurology
    • Infectious Diseases
    • Immunology

    Background:

    • Acute polyradiculoneuritis is a rare neurological disorder.
    • Toxoplasma gondii is an opportunistic protozoan parasite.
    • Guillain-Barré syndrome is a common form of acute polyradiculoneuritis.

    Observation:

    • A patient presented with acute polyradiculoneuritis following a recent toxoplasma infection.
    • A potential causal link between toxoplasmosis and polyradiculoneuritis was investigated.
    • A review of three similar published cases did not reveal specific clinical indicators for the polyradiculoneuritis.

    Findings:

    • A likely causal relationship exists between toxoplasma infection and the development of acute polyradiculoneuritis.
    • No distinct clinical features differentiate toxoplasma-associated polyradiculoneuritis from other forms.

    Implications:

    • Serological testing for toxoplasmosis should be considered in the etiological workup of idiopathic Guillain-Barré syndrome.
    • This finding may improve diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes for neurological complications of toxoplasmosis.
    • Further research is warranted to elucidate the precise mechanisms underlying this association.
