Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are promising materials for applications such as energy storage, lithium batteries, gas separation, and drug delivery. Diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP)-functionalized COFs have recently emerged as exciting materials with significant potential for optoelectronic applications owing to their unique properties, including extended π-conjugation, broad light absorption, and enhanced photocatalytic activity. This review highlights recent developments in DPP-based COFs, showcasing their improved light-harvesting capabilities, iodine trapping, photocatalytic efficiency, and bioimaging potential. These COFs have demonstrated promise in energy storage, uranium reduction, and photothermal conversion, positioning them as transformative materials for sustainable energy and environmental solutions. With new materials and emerging applications, DPP-based COFs are poised to become highly efficient advanced materials for practical use.

Crystal Field Theory - Tetrahedral and Square Planar Complexes
Crystal field theory (CFT) is applicable to molecules in geometries other than octahedral. In octahedral complexes, the lobes of the dx2−y2 and dz2 orbitals point directly at the ligands. For tetrahedral complexes, the d orbitals remain in place, but with only four ligands located between the axes. None of the orbitals points directly at the tetrahedral ligands. However, the dx2−y2 and dz2 orbitals (along the Cartesian axes) overlap with the ligands less than the dxy,...
