Composite molecules consisting of one cubane complex and two perylenediimide moieties were synthesized. The cyclic voltammogram of the molecule exhibited reversible redox waves for oxidation of complex and two-stage reduction of the perylenediimide moieties. The emission spectrum in a solution revealed strongly quenched fluorescence of perylenediimide, which suggests intramolecular electron transfer from to the excited perylenediimide. The approach presented here will be a valuable guide for the synthesis of organic/inorganic hybrid molecules, which should open a new field of unexplored molecular materials.
