Abstract:
Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is only becoming more prevalent as the population ages. There are many treatment options available from pharmacologic therapy, to endoscopic procedures to open or robotic surgery. The historical standard for endoscopic management of LUTS due to BPH has long been the transurethral resection of prostate (TURP). Although pharmacologic therapy can be effective, it is met with many dissatisfying and troublesome side effects for men. There has been a need for something to bridge the gap between pharmacotherapy and endoscopic management, such as a TURP.

Treatment for Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension: Prostacyclin Receptor Agonists
These agonists bind to the IPR receptor situated on the plasma membrane of the pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells. This binding triggers a cascade of reactions known as the GS-AC-cAMP-PKA pathway. This pathway results in the relaxation of smooth muscle...
Treatment for Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension: Phosphodiesterase Inhibitors
Among the PDE5 inhibitors, sildenafil (Revatio) stands out as a competitive and selective inhibitor. It operates by elevating cellular levels of cGMP and augmenting signaling through the cGMP-PKG pathway, promoting vasodilation. Upon oral...
Drugs for Treatment of Diarrhea-Predominant IBS
Two specific drugs used in the treatment are alosetron (Lotronex) and eluxadoline (Viberzi). Alosetron, a 5-HT3 antagonist, works by slowing the movement of stools in the gut, reducing bowel...
