Purpose of the Study:

  • To report a case of prostatic abscess formation following SpaceOAR hydrogel implantation for prostate cancer radiotherapy.
  • To discuss potential causes and management of this rare complication.

Main Methods:

  • A 79-year-old male patient received external-beam radiation therapy with hormone therapy for prostate cancer.
  • SpaceOAR hydrogel was implanted prior to stereotactic radiotherapy (Cyberknife).
  • Diagnosis of prostatic abscess was confirmed via clinical, CT, and MRI findings.

Main Results:

  • The patient developed a fever and was diagnosed with a prostatic abscess at the SpaceOAR insertion site post-radiotherapy.
