We must also anticipate our adaptation to extreme climatic events, which will impact both outpatient medicine and hospital facilities. French healthcare system needs to envision more resource-efficient individual and collective practices in order to project its public solidarity model into a future constrained by climate change. Medical ethics are primarily particularistic, addressing a one-on-one relationship between caregiver and patient. However, environmental issues encourage to consider a more collective and equitable medical ethic, emphasizing prevention, early detection, and less energy-intensive therapeutic alternatives. The challenge is to preserve a human-centered medicine that serves the patient while projecting it within a viable and sustainable system, balancing concern for the individual with the welfare of the community and the prospects of future generations.
