Abstract:
PRESENTATION OF THE ONE HEALTH CONCEPT AND ILLUSTRATION IN ONCOLOGY AND GERIATRICS. The carbon footprint of the healthcare sector accounts for 8% of France's CO2 emissions and must meet the carbon neutrality targets set by COP21. The manufacturing and transportation of pharmaceuticals and medical devices contribute to 50% of these emissions. Likewise, the environmental impact of the healthcare system is concerning. The One Health concept-which underscores the interdependence between human, animal, and environmental health-aims to address the health challenges that will be exacerbated by global warming and ecosystem pollution. Consequently, the healthcare system must adapt to the challenges posed by global warming while maintaining the quality of care. A comprehensive reflection on "medical sobriety" is imperative. It is illustrated in this article through the lens of oncology and geriatrics. This approach includes reducing and optimizing prescriptions, but it must also incorporate strategies for prevention, screening, and non-pharmacological alternatives. Beyond the cost-benefit-risk ratio of each treatment, taking its ecological impact into account may become increasingly relevant.
