Blunt traumatic aortic injury following a combat blast trauma

Abstract:
Blunt traumatic aortic injury (BTAI) is a rare and often fatal. We present the case of a 19-year-old male soldier with BTAI and left subclavian artery (LSA) dissection after a blast injury from a rocket-propelled grenade. Despite the absence of other significant primary blast injuries, imaging revealed a grade III pseudoaneurysm at the aortic isthmus and LSA dissection. Emergent thoracic endovascular aortic repair with LSA stenting and thrombectomy was performed successfully. This report is the first of an isolated BTAI after a combat blast injury. It underscores the need for heightened clinical suspicion and highlights the efficacy of endovascular management.
