Abstract:
Fusarium falciforme has emerged as a significant human pathogen, primarily causing invasive infections in immunocompromised individuals. Here, we report the first confirmed case of F. falciforme subcutaneous infection in an immunocompetent Chinese patient which remains rare. A 75-year-old female presented with a dark red plaque on the dorsum of her left hand. Diagnosis was confirmed through histopathology, tissue culture, and internal transcribed spacer sequencing. The patient received combined oral therapy with itraconazole and terbinafine for 2 years, with a favorable outcome. This report alerts clinicians to the possibility of F. falciforme infections in healthy individuals and emphasizes the early diagnosis and timely treatment.
