In this study, a new green method for the synthesis of indolo[1,2-f]phenanthridines by decarboxylative coupling cyclization of 1-(2-iodophenyl)-1H-indoles and o-bromobenzoic acids was developed by using TBAB as a phase transfer catalyst to promote substrate dissolution and reaction mass transfer in aqueous medium. It features diverse substrate compatibility, gram-scale synthesis, and aqueous medium recycling.
