Purpose of the Study:

  • To examine the association between surgeons' mindsets and their self-regulated learning (SRL) processes.
  • To determine if motivation mediates the relationship between mindset and SRL in surgeons.

  • A web-based survey was administered to 170 surgeons from Dutch surgical associations.
  • Validated instruments measured growth/fixed mindsets, autonomous/controlled motivation, and the three phases of SRL (forethought, performance, reflection).

  • Supporting a growth mindset in surgeons can enhance autonomous motivation and self-regulated learning.
  • Fostering a growth mindset is essential for continuous performance improvement in surgical practice.
