Background:

Chile lacks a national registry for cardiac surgery data, hindering analysis of outcomes and patient demographics.
A critical need exists for systematic data collection to improve cardiac surgical care.
Development of a web-based platform addresses this gap in cardiac surgery documentation.

Purpose of the Study:

To design, develop, and implement a cardiac surgery data collection and analysis platform.
To align the platform with international standards for clinical decision-making and research.
To create a robust system for managing cardiac surgery data in Chile.

Main Methods:

A web-based platform was developed using model-view-controller architecture.
The platform incorporates input from healthcare professionals and follows the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery database guidelines.
It captures over 160 clinical variables across preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative stages.

Main Results:

The first online platform for cardiac surgery documentation in Chile was successfully developed and implemented.
Since 2014, it has documented over 4800 cardiac surgeries, becoming Latin America's largest single-institution database.
The platform provides real-time data access, aids planning, evaluates outcomes, and integrates risk assessment tools.

Conclusions:

The platform facilitates evidence-based decision-making and public health planning for cardiac surgery in Chile.
