Purpose:
The purpose of this study is to explore the impact of psychological intervention based on narrative therapy on the mental health and self-efficacy of patients in the oncology department.
Methods:
A randomized controlled trial was conducted. Patients with malignant tumors hospitalized from January 2022 to January 2024 were selected and randomly assigned to an intervention group or a control group. The intervention group received a narrative therapy-based psychological intervention comprising weekly sessions over one month, while the control group received conventional care only. Mental health, psychological resilience, somatic symptom severity, and self-efficacy were assessed at baseline and one month post-intervention using the SAS, SDS, CD-RISC, PHQ-15, and GSES scales.
Results:
A total of 180 patients were enrolled. After the one-month intervention period, the intervention group demonstrated statistically significant greater improvements compared to the control group on all outcomes. Specifically, the intervention group showed significantly greater reductions in SAS (t = -5.113, p < 0.001), SDS (t = -6.419, p < 0.001), and PHQ-15 scores (t = -2.926, p = 0.004), and significantly greater increases in CD-RISC (t = 7.326, p < 0.001) and GSES scores (t = 4.137, p < 0.001).
Conclusions:
A one-month narrative therapy-based psychological intervention was effective in mitigating anxiety and depression, enhancing psychological resilience, alleviating somatic symptoms, and improving self-efficacy in oncology inpatients. Integrating narrative practices into routine supportive care is recommended.

Moreover, cancer cells mutate rapidly and can develop resistance to chemical agents or radiation therapy. Besides, all types of cancer cells may not respond to the same therapy. Some cancer cells respond to one...
