Abstract:
Fungal bezoars in the urinary tract are rare and typically present in immunocompromised individuals, such as those with diabetes mellitus. We discuss the case of a 66-year-old bedbound female with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus who presented with intra-abdominal collections secondary to a possible bladder perforation. She was subsequently found to have bladder outlet obstruction secondary to a large fungal bezoar resembling a mucinous bladder tumour. This case highlights the importance of considering fungal bezoars in the differential diagnosis in patients presenting with bladder masses, especially in high-risk patients, to prevent misdiagnosis and ensure appropriate treatment.
