    Abstract:

This work presents an investigation into an audio-controlled edge semantic segmentation system motivated to enhance assistive technology for visually impaired people. Our multimodal system leverages audio inputs to actively control semantic segmentation processes. By utilizing separate convolutional networks for visual semantic segmentation and audio keyword spotting, the proposed system enables users to select specific object categories through simple voice commands. This selection dynamically filters visual information, reducing cognitive load and optimizing the display of essential environmental details. We provide an analysis of the trade-off between segmentation accuracy and computational efficiency across varying image resolutions and propose several post-processing techniques to enhance the user experience. The feasibility of running the system on edge is demonstrated with the Nvidia Jetson AGX Orin platform.

    Frequency-Domain Interpretation of PD Control

Proportional-Derivative (PD) controllers are widely used in fan control systems to improve stability and performance. A fan control system can be effectively represented using a Bode plot to illustrate the impact of a PD controller through its transfer function. The Bode plot visually conveys how PD control modifies the fan's response across various frequencies, providing a frequency domain interpretation of the controller's behavior.

    Auditory Perception

The auditory system is essential for sound perception, utilizing various critical structures. When sound waves enter the outer ear, they travel through the ear canal and cause the eardrum to vibrate. These vibrations are then transmitted to the middle ear, where three tiny bones – the malleus, incus, and stapes – amplify the sound. This amplification is crucial, as it ensures that the sound vibrations are strong enough to be conveyed to the inner ear. These vibrations then reach the cochlea, a...
