A retrospective descriptive cohort study was performed using data from the British Association of Dermatologists Biologics and Immunomodulator Register, a registry pharmacovigilance study in the UK and Ireland looking at people with a diagnosis of psoriasis. There was no statistically significant association between methotrexate (MTX) exposure and fibrotic interstitial lung disease (fILD) occurrence. Among people exposed to MTX for psoriasis, there were 2.5 fewer fibrosis cases per 10 000 person-years compared with the nonexposed group. These findings are consistent with the evolving body of evidence challenging the perceived link between MTX exposure and development of fILD and support that chest radiography is probably unnecessary in dermatology drug monitoring clinics.
