Comprehensive Evaluation of a Novel Nurse Preceptor Certificate Program: A Quality Initiative

The landmark report "Educating Nurses: A Call for Radical Transformation" emphasized the need for improved nursing education and highlighted preceptors' critical role. To address gaps in formal training, a comprehensive nurse preceptor certificate program was developed to strengthen preceptors' teaching competencies and support clinical learning.

This quality improvement initiative used the Kirkpatrick Model to evaluate participant reactions, knowledge acquisition, and behavior change. Data collection included end-of-module evaluations, self-assessments before and after the program, and follow-up surveys.

Among 168 learners, 98% reported increased knowledge and confidence. Self-assessments displayed competence gains ranging from 6.2% to 16.6%. Follow-up responses indicated improvements in precepting behaviors and learner support.

The certificate program effectively enhanced preceptor competence and confidence. Future efforts should expand accessibility and incorporate longitudinal assessments to evaluate sustained impacts on clinical practice.
