Background:

Physical Capacity Profile (PCP) testing evaluates physical fitness for job requirements.
Studies link lower PCP scores to increased work-related lower-back injuries.
Assessing PCP's relation to lower-back pain history is crucial for worker safety.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate associations between demographics, history of lower-back pain (HxLBP), and surgery (HxLBP+Surgery) with PCP results.
To analyze how HxLBP and HxLBP+Surgery impact specific physical performance metrics.
To identify demographic factors influencing HxLBP and its relation to physical capacity.

Main Methods:

Retrospective, cross-sectional study of 100,000 newly hired workers.
Data collected from 150 test sites between March 2015 and December 2018.
Regressions analyzed overall PCP scores, spinal range of motion (ROM), and dynamic strength, controlling for covariates.

Main Results:

Higher age correlated with increased odds of HxLBP and HxLBP+Surgery.
Females had lower odds of HxLBP compared to males.
HxLBP significantly reduced overall PCP scores, ROM, and dynamic strength tests.

Conclusions:

History of lower-back pain (HxLBP) is prevalent in employees, particularly females and older individuals.
HxLBP predicts slightly decreased performance in Physical Capacity Profile (PCP) tests.
Further research is needed to determine PCP's predictive value for injury rates with comorbidities.
