The Association Between Height-Related Novel Anthropometric Indices and Cardiovascular Events: A Cross-Sectional

Waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) predicts cardiovascular disease (CVD) incidence in men, but not women. Further research is needed to understand height-related anthropometric indices and CVD risk in females.

- Cross-sectional study of 7113 participants from the Mashhad Stroke and Heart Atherosclerotic Disorders (MASHAD) cohort.
- Measured anthropometric indices included body mass index (BMI), WHtR, hip to height ratio (HHR), wrist to height ratio (WrHR), neck to height ratio (NHR), and mid-arm to height ratio (MAHR).
- Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to assess associations with CVD incidence.
Main Results:
- A 1% decrease in WHtR was associated with a 2.4% decrease in CVD odds in men (OR: 1.024, p=0.039).
- No significant association between WHtR and CVD odds was found in women (p>0.05).
- Other height-related anthropometric indices showed no significant association with CVD incidence in either sex.
Conclusions:
- Waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) is a significant predictor of CVD incidence in men.
- The lack of significant findings in women suggests potential confounder effects or the need for larger sample sizes.
- Further investigation into height-related anthropometric indices and CVD risk in females is warranted.
