  • To evaluate the impact of integrating psychiatric social workers (PSWs) into early education centers (EECs) on children's school readiness.
  • To test the hypothesis that TRiEE positively associates with foundational skill acquisition.

Main Methods:

  • Utilized student-level de-identified administrative data from the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP).
  • Collected data from twenty-four TRiEE-affiliated EECs in a large, urban public school district over three academic years.
  • Employed mixed-effects models to compare outcomes between sites actively implementing TRiEE and those not yet implementing it.

Main Results:

  • Students at sites actively implementing TRiEE showed significantly greater improvement rates in socio-emotional outcomes (p < .05).
  • Significant improvements were also observed in cognitive and physical outcomes for students in TRiEE-implemented sites (p < .05).
  • Children in TRiEE-implementing sites demonstrated better school readiness compared to control sites.

Conclusions:

  • The TRiEE initiative, integrating PSWs into EECs within a CS framework, positively impacts children's development.
  • This trauma- and resilience-informed ECE approach enhances key skills foundational for school readiness.
  • TRiEE offers a promising model for reducing educational disparities and supporting vulnerable student populations.
