Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between the frequency of EPA microassessments and resident satisfaction with feedback.

Main Methods:

  • A survey was administered to general surgery residents post-exam in January 2025.
  • Residents reported feedback frequency, EPA MA frequency, and satisfaction levels on best and worst rotations.
  • Multivariable analyses examined the relationship between EPA MA frequency and feedback satisfaction.

  • 82% of 10,404 residents participated; 74.4% received at least one EPA MA per rotation.
  • Increased EPA MA frequency correlated with higher feedback satisfaction (p<0.001).

Conclusions:

  • Higher frequency of self-reported EPA MAs is linked to improved resident feedback satisfaction.
  • Receiving at least one EPA MA weekly is particularly beneficial.
  • EPA MAs significantly enhance feedback satisfaction on rotations lacking alternative feedback methods.
