Abstract:
This article (re)introduces the construct of the traditional therapeutic milieu and then reframes its application within the primary care environment relevant to the patient, family, and health care team. Building on the seminal work of Gunderson, the foundational elements of milieu provide an accessible and actionable framework by which members of the health care team can more effectively assess and manage primary care's therapeutic milieu with the goals of preserving life, preventing further harm, and promoting recovery.
