Abstract:
Arrhythmias are a leading cause of morbidity, mortality, and impaired quality of life in the rapidly growing adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) population. Despite advances in catheter ablation, anti-arrhythmic drugs (AADs) continue to play a key role in the management of arrhythmias in patients with ACHD. However, limited evidence or guidance exists regarding the use of AADs in this diverse patient population. Here, we provide an overview of arrhythmias in various ACHD conditions, physiological considerations in each ACHD relevant to AAD use, pharmacological properties of commonly used AADs, and strategies in AAD selection tailored to each condition.
