Abstract:
Over recent decades, bronchiectasis has shifted from being regarded as an orphan disease, both clinically and scientifically, to one of the most rapidly expanding fields of respiratory research. Its inherently multidisciplinary and multidimensional nature highlights that therapeutic strategies should extend beyond infection and inflammation to equally relevant targets such as airway secretion management, nutritional support, respiratory physiotherapy, physical exercise, and the control of complications. Our improved understanding of bronchiectasis has fostered the development of disease-specific pharmacological agents representing a decisive step towards more precise and personalized medicine.
