Abstract:
Blood donor deferral management is a critically important aspect of the safety of the blood supply. Since 2020, several key changes in regulated deferrals have occurred. The most significant change has been the shift to the individual risk assessment model for HIV risk mitigation. The implementation of this had several unique challenges. How blood centers approached the implementation of the individual risk assessment model and other changes of blood donor deferrals since 2020 are discussed.
