Cytomegalovirus retinitis (CMVR) is a rare complication in solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients. Diabetes mellitus significantly increases the risk of developing CMVR after SOT.

- CMVR is a rare, late-onset complication following SOT.
- Diabetes mellitus is a significant independent risk factor for CMVR in SOT recipients.
- Further research into managing CMVR risk in diabetic SOT patients is warranted.
