Objective:
This study examined associations between psychosocial work conditions, resilience, and burnout among university academic staff.
Methods:
A cross-sectional survey (December 2024 to May 2025) was conducted among 190 full-time academics at a university in Taichung, Taiwan. Burnout was assessed using the Chinese Copenhagen Burnout Inventory, psychosocial factors with the Chinese Job Content Questionnaire, and resilience with the 10-item Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale.
Results:
Psychological job demands (mean = 82.1/100) and work-to-family conflict (74.8/100) were high (>70/100), while job insecurity was moderate (44.9/100; 40-60/100). Work-related burnout was moderate (mean = 55.2). Job insecurity showed the strongest association with work-related burnout ( B = 0.42, 95% confidence interval = 0.30-0.53). Job control, social support, and resilience were protective.
Conclusions:
Burnout among faculty was driven mainly by high demands, job insecurity, and work-to-family conflict.
