Preoperative audiovisual aid for patients undergoing coronary revascularization: a randomized clinical trial

to evaluate the effect of an audiovisual aid on knowledge acquisition and anxiety levels during the preoperative period of coronary revascularization.

we conducted a randomized, double-blind clinical trial with 44 participants at a large tertiary hospital in northeastern Brazil. The control group (n = 22) received verbal instructions alone, while the experimental group (n = 22) received verbal instructions and an audiovisual intervention. Data were collected using a knowledge questionnaire and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. Statistical analysis included Student's t-test, the chi-square test, and Fisher's exact test.

in the experimental group, positive affect increased and anxiety decreased significantly. Knowledge about the procedure improved with the audiovisual aid (p < 0.005), and state anxiety declined more in the experimental group than in the control group (p = 0.001).
