Abstract:
Benchmarking is a quality improvement tool used to help define the best potential outcomes from specific surgical procedures. Modern breast augmentation includes detailed patient education and informed consent including the FDA checklist. Patients should be screened for modern health worries and the risk of Illness Anxiety and Somatic Symptom Disorders. Preoperative assessment includes measurements, photography, and simulations. Surgeons may select implants from a range of options, and procedures are specifically designed to reduce the potential for capsular contracture and malposition. Implant surveillance includes registering implants and patients with a national database and long-term surveillance with in-office high-resolution ultrasound.
