Elements Crucial for Effective Psychotherapy01:25

Elements Crucial for Effective Psychotherapy

412
Research has highlighted several critical factors that influence the effectiveness of psychotherapy, such as the therapeutic alliance, the therapist, and the client.
The Therapeutic Alliance
The therapeutic alliance refers to the relationship between the therapist and the client. The alliance strengthens when the therapist and the client engage in a nurturing, supportive, trusting, empathetic, and respectful relationship, improving therapeutic outcomes. Therapists must monitor this relationship...

The Professional Nurse01:22

The Professional Nurse

7.1K
Professional nurses are not limited to bedside care and are taking roles of greater responsibility. A nurse should have a knowledge-based practice, including personal, theoretical, procedural, cultural, and reflexive knowledge. Additionally, nurses must be competent in cognitive, technical, interpersonal, and ethical/legal skills. Some of the best attributes of successful nurses include the following:
Communication skills: These are critical characteristics, especially speaking and listening.

Current Trends in Nursing II01:30

Current Trends in Nursing II

3.6K
Trends in nursing are multifactorial and associated with changes in society, within the nursing profession, and in other professions. Notably, telehealth and remote nursing contribute to successful healthcare delivery for numerous patients and help reduce stress for nurses due to nursing shortages. Nurses can reach patients, monitor their conditions, and interact with them using computers, audio, visual accessories, and telephones—for example, remote patient monitoring systems. Likewise,...

Chest Physiotherapy01:24

Chest Physiotherapy

2.3K
Chest Physiotherapy (CPT) is a therapeutic technique used in respiratory care to improve ventilation, clear bronchial secretions, and enhance the efficiency of respiratory muscles. This therapy includes three primary procedures: postural drainage, percussion, and vibration. It can be performed on spontaneously breathing patients and those who are intubated and mechanically ventilated.
Purpose
CPT is primarily used for patients with excessive bronchial secretions who have difficulty clearing...

Guidelines for Writing Outcome01:11

Guidelines for Writing Outcome

4.2K
When developing expected outcomes for a patient care plan, the nurse should adhere to the following recommendations:
Patient outcomes reflect the patient's response to the goal rather than what the nurse aims to achieve. Terminology should be observable and measurable to avoid the reader's interpretation. The desired outcome should be realistic and achievable in the designated care timeframe. Expected outcomes should align with adjunctive therapies. The outcome should enhance care...

Interdisciplinary Care: The Health Care Team-II

2.4K
An interdisciplinary team includes many healthcare professionals working together and utilizing their skills, knowledge, and expertise to provide holistic and quality patient care. Here are a few more healthcare professionals.
Physical Therapist
A physical therapist (PT) aims to restore function or prevent additional impairment in a patient following an injury or disease. Massage, heat, cold, water, sonar waves, exercises, and electrical stimulation are some treatments used by PTs to treat...

Summary

Physiotherapists show strong attitudes towards evidence-based practice (EBP) but need better skills in critical appraisal and knowledge sharing. Sustained EBP implementation requires ongoing competency development and support throughout their careers.

Area of Science:

  • Physiotherapy
  • Evidence-Based Practice Research
  • Health Professions Education

Background:

  • Evidence-based practice (EBP) is crucial for physiotherapy but implementation is inconsistent.
  • Understanding physiotherapists' self-reported EBP competencies and influencing factors is essential for improving practice.
  • This study addresses the gap in knowledge regarding EBP implementation in routine physiotherapy.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To describe self-reported evidence-based practice (EBP) competencies among Estonian physiotherapists.
  • To identify factors associated with daily EBP implementation.
  • To examine factors linked to readiness for implementing EBP in clinical settings.

Main Methods:

  • A cross-sectional analytic survey was conducted with 337 practicing Estonian physiotherapists.
  • The Estonian version of the Evidence-Based Practice Questionnaire (EBPQ-E) assessed EBP competencies.
  • Multiple linear regression models analyzed associations between characteristics, competencies, daily EBP, and readiness for EBP.

Main Results:

  • Physiotherapists reported high EBP attitudes but lower scores in critical appraisal and knowledge sharing.
  • Readiness for EBP was associated with supervisory experience, dual employment, and collaboration (7.5% variance).
  • Daily EBP was mainly explained by EBP competencies (40.8% variance), with a negative association for 5-10 years of experience.

Conclusions:

  • While professional factors support readiness for EBP, consistent implementation requires continuous competency enhancement.
  • Career-long support for physiotherapists is vital for sustained EBP integration.
  • Focus should shift from static background factors to ongoing professional development for effective EBP.
