[ZHANG Yongshu's experience in pushing-pulling technique of ox-horn needle]

Professor ZHANG Yongshu applies the pushing-pulling technique of ox-horn needle in clinical practice, based on the theories of meridians, zangfu and muscle regions of meridians and guided by the academic concept, "nourishing yang and yin and regulating the governor vessel and the conception vessel". It is characterized by focusing on meridian-collateral differentiation in diagnosis, eliminating pathogens as the essential principle, pushing and pulling along meridian distribution with gentle and penetrating stimulation, and emphasizing on regulating the mind and preserving qi in line with patient-oriented therapeutic approach. The ox-horn needle can be used as an alternative to a traditional needle in treatment, so as to regulate yin and yang, reinforce the deficiency and reduce the excess of diseases. The technique with ox-horn needle is simple, effective and non-invasive, and it is acceptable by the elderly, weak and young patients or those with a fear of needling. Additionally, this technique shows the quick onset of therapeutic effect with safety and reliability.
