The Success of Dental Implant Placed in Ridge with Inadequate Bone Width and Exposed Screw Threads-A CBCT Case Report

Abstract:
Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is an advanced technique helpful in detecting bone formation in the deficient ridges after grafting and implant placement without the need for histological evidence. A healthy male patient with a missing tooth in the maxillary premolar region visited the dental hospital for the implantation of the tooth. Initial CBCT examination revealed a horizontal ridge defect in the mid-buccal region. The implant was placed along with grafting in the exposed thread region followed by GTR membrane placement and the area was allowed to heal for 6 months. CBCT was advised immediately after implant placement. The patient reported after 8 years, the soft tissue was perfect with no signs of inflammation and the prosthesis was good functionally and esthetically, a CBCT was advised which helped to detected adequate bone formation and successfully osseointegrated implant. Proper grafting and regular monitoring and follow-up can result in the success of implants in deficient grafted ridges even after 8 years with CBCT helpful to detect bone formation.
