Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RA) have transformed the management of type 2 diabetes and obesity, and they are increasingly being used in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease. However, their rapid uptake has raised safety concerns, particularly regarding the risk of acute pancreatitis and periprocedural management in endoscopy, given the delayed gastric emptying and risk of aspiration under sedation or anesthesia. This article summarizes the current indications for GLP-1 RAs in Switzerland, the available clinical evidence on the risk of pancreatitis, and practical strategies for risk mitigation and periprocedural management in endoscopy.
