Therapeutic Communication

10.9K
Communication is a lifelong learning process. Through therapeutic communication, nurses can collect relevant assessment data, provide education and counseling, and interact during nursing interventions. Sending and receiving messages occur through verbal and nonverbal communication techniques and can happen separately or simultaneously.
Verbal communication depends on language or a prescribed way of using words so that people can share information effectively. The critical aspects of verbal...

Modeling in Therapy

711
Modeling, a key technique in therapy, uses observational learning to help clients acquire and practice new skills by watching therapists demonstrate desired behaviors. This approach, rooted in Albert Bandura's concept of vicarious learning, plays a significant role in therapeutic interventions for various psychological conditions, including social anxiety, ADHD, and depression.
Participant Modeling
Participant modeling involves therapists demonstrating calm and effective behaviors in...

Area of Science:

  • Nursing Education
  • Health Informatics
  • Artificial Intelligence

Background:

  • Emerging AI-enabled ambient speech recognition technology is set to revolutionize patient care through conversational narration.
  • This technology offers potential for nurses to enhance patient engagement and care delivery.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To review current evidence on AI-enabled virtual reality (VR) simulation for developing therapeutic communication and health assessment skills in nursing.
  • To identify gaps in the literature regarding VR efficacy for conversational assessment training.

Main Methods:

  • Systematic literature search across CINAHL, PubMed, and OVID databases.
  • Data extraction and synthesis to identify themes and patterns in the selected studies.

Main Results:

  • Eight studies met inclusion criteria; none involved practicing nurses.
  • Findings indicate a mixed association between AI-enabled VR patient simulation and skill development in nursing students.
  • Key domains analyzed included therapeutic communication, learning effectiveness (confidence, self-efficacy), and VR usability.

Conclusions:

  • A significant literature gap exists concerning VR efficacy for conversational assessment training, particularly for practicing nurses.
  • Ambient voice technology is evolving rapidly and is expected to become standard in nursing practice.
  • Future research should explore VR patient simulation's role in supporting ambient technology adoption and inform future nursing practice and education.
