The chest wall is a rigid yet flexible structure that protects underlying organs while facilitating movement and the mechanics of ventilation. Significant chest wall defects may arise from a variety of sources, including neoplasm, infection, trauma, congenital defects, and radiation, with the most common indication for resection and subsequent reconstruction being neoplasm. Nonrigid reconstruction options can be divided into autologous, alloplastic, or combined methods, while rigid options are more easily grouped into those employing bone, prosthesis, or a combination of both. Thorough preoperative evaluation, meticulous surgical technique, and close postoperative monitoring are essential to minimize risks and enhance patient outcomes.
