Harnessing sunlight through artificial photosynthesis invites exciting possibilities for sustainable energy and eco-friendly chemical processes. We're thrilled to share a new development: a creative donor-π-acceptor covalent organic framework (D-π-A COF) photocatalyst. Made simply by combining guanidinium chloride (acceptor) with acenaphthenequinone (donor), this metal-free, recyclable material shines brightly under solar light, making it perfect for various valuable photocatalytic tasks. By adjusting factors like concentration and reaction time, the COF shows impressive performance in regenerating 1,4-NADH (40.43%) and converting CO2 into formic acid (106.9 µmol), beautifully linking energy capture with carbon usage. Plus, it enables solar-powered synthesis of important pharmaceutical intermediates, opening new doors in medicinal chemistry. Its excellent reusability, eco-friendly design, and demonstrated photocatalytic potential establish this framework as a promising platform for artificial photosynthesis, advancing solar fuel production and sustainable chemical manufacturing.
