Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare patient expectations with their actual experiences following RCT.

Main Methods:

  • A prospective analytical study was conducted at Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences.
  • Patients completed questionnaires before and after RCT to assess concerns and pain perceptions.
  • Multiple-choice questions evaluated anticipated versus experienced pain levels.

Main Results:

  • Before RCT, 75.3% expected pain, while only 43.2% experienced pain post-treatment.
  • A significant majority (54.2%) reported no pain after RCT.
  • Pain was the primary pretreatment concern (26.4%), while time became a post-treatment concern (16.7%).

Conclusions:

  • Patient-experienced pain during endodontic treatment is often less than anticipated.
  • Root canal treatment (RCT) demonstrated a 100% satisfaction rate.
  • Most patients expressed willingness for future RCT if needed.
