None:
An easily oxidizable Ru(II) complex, 2, of strongly σ-donating ligand has been synthesized, structurally characterized, and successfully used for the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) as a photosensitizer (PS) under light irradiation of different wavelengths. This complex was found to be active for HER in combination with the classic [Co(dmgH)2(py)Cl] as a catalyst with a TOFmax ranging from 8 (λirr = 630 nm) to 183 (λirr = 445 nm) mmolH2·molPS-1·min-1 and TONlast ranging from 9 (λirr = 630 nm) to 349 (λirr = 445 nm) molH2·molPS-1. The study presents the first example of photoproduction of H2 using a Ru(II)-heteroleptic terpyridine PS with an oxidation potential below 0.6 V vs the SCE.

The Photochemical Reaction Center
Photosystem II
The pigment molecules are arranged across two photosystem domains — the antenna complex and the reaction center. The main aim of the pigment...
Photosystem I
Both these photosystems work in concert. An excited electron from PSII is relayed to PSI via an electron transport chain in the thylakoid membrane of the chloroplast, which is comprised of the carrier molecule plastoquinone, the dual-protein cytochrome complex, and plastocyanin. As electrons move between PSII and PSI, they lose energy and must be re-energized...
Reduction of Alkenes: Asymmetric Catalytic Hydrogenation
The metal catalyst used can be either heterogeneous or homogeneous. When hydrogenation of an alkene generates a chiral center, a pair of enantiomeric products is expected to form. However, an enantiomeric excess of one of the products can be facilitated using an enantioselective reaction or an...
