Self-Report Tests of Personality01:22

Self-Report Tests of Personality

Self-report inventories are objective personality assessments that use multiple-choice items or numbered scales, typically ranging from 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree). They are often called Likert scales after Rensis Likert. These inventories are widely used due to their ease of administration and cost-effectiveness. One of the most prominent examples is the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), initially developed in the 1940s to assess abnormal personality traits.
Information Processing Approach01:30

Information Processing Approach

The information-processing theory of cognitive development centers on fundamental mental processes, including attention, memory, and problem-solving skills. Researchers in this field examine how cognitive abilities, such as working memory, evolve and influence children's overall development. Studies indicate that children with stronger working memory tend to excel in reading comprehension, math, and problem-solving compared to peers with less efficient memory skills. Low working memory is also...
Response Surface Methodology01:16

Response Surface Methodology

Response Surface Methodology (RSM) is a collection of statistical and mathematical techniques used to develop, improve, and optimize processes. It is particularly valuable when many input variables or factors potentially influence a response variable.
The process of RSM involves several key steps:

Area of Science:

  • Psychology
  • Neuroscience
  • Cognitive Science

Background:

  • Executive functions (EF) are crucial cognitive processes.
  • Existing measures of EF have limitations.
  • A new measure based on the representation, planning, monitoring/execution (RPM) framework was developed.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To establish the psychometric properties of the new EF RPM scale.
  • To compare the EF RPM scale with another EF rating scale.
  • To examine the relationship between the EF RPM scale and relevant outcomes.

Main Methods:

  • Psychometric analysis including distributional, reliability, and validity assessments.
  • Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to evaluate scale structure.
  • Convergent and discriminant validity analyses against another EF scale and functional outcomes.

Main Results:

  • The EF RPM scale demonstrated positive distributional, reliability, and validity evidence.
  • CFA confirmed items aligned with factors, and factors related strongly, supporting a unitary EF process.
  • The scale showed good convergent validity, expected relations with functional outcomes, and stronger discriminant validity for non-EF behaviors.

Conclusions:

  • The EF RPM scale is a reliable and valid measure of executive function.
  • The scale shows promise for use in research and clinical settings.
  • Further validation in diverse populations and contexts is warranted.
