Applying the BI-RADS® lexicon to contrast-enhanced mammography: Establishing a framework for report standardisation

Contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) is an advanced breast radiology technique, comparable to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In 2022, the American College of Radiology (ACR) published a supplement on the BI-RADS® lexicon for mammography that included specifications for CEM, given its increasing popularity. The aim was to promote consistency in reporting and to encourage future research. However, an official Spanish version does not yet exist. This article reviews and applies a Spanish version of the lexicon, establishing an initial framework for the standardisation of interpreting and report writing for this modality. Future revisions of the lexicon are expected to be based on further experience and research. It should be used systematically to ensure clarity and accuracy in diagnostic reports and assessments.
