Abstract:
Nonpharmacological treatments for insomnia disorder, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), are increasingly recognized as first-line interventions due to their long-term efficacy and safety. Unlike medications, CBT-I addresses the behavioral and cognitive patterns that perpetuate sleep disturbances, offering durable improvements without risk of dependence. Delivery formats include in-person, telehealth, and digital platforms, expanding access across diverse populations. Adaptations for children, older adults, and caregivers have shown promising results. Emerging innovations, such as AI-driven personalization and therapist-guided digital CBT-I, are shaping the future of sleep care, making evidence-based treatment more accessible, scalable, and integrated into routine health care.

Sedatives and Hypnotics Drugs: Miscellaneous Agents
Melatonin congeners like ramelteon (Rozerem) and tasimelteon (Hetlioz) selectively bind to melatonin receptors (MT1 and MT2) and thus mimic the actions of melatonin, a hormone that regulates sleep-wake cycles. Tasimelteon is primarily used for non-24-hour sleep-wake disorder, common in blind patients. They are also used to treat conditions like insomnia...

Sedatives and Hypnotics: Overview
Sedative-hypnotics are categorized into barbiturates, benzodiazepines (BZDs), and non-benzodiazepines or Z-drugs. These drugs work by suppressing central nervous system activity, and this suppression is dose-dependent. Older sedative medications, like barbiturates, follow a linear curve in...
