Main Results:
- The prevalence of PAD was 22.0% (95% CI 16.1-29.3).
- PAD was significantly associated with ischemic heart disease (IHD) (aOR 5.45) and non-lacunar infarcts (NLI) (aOR 2.78) after adjusting for carotid atherosclerosis and neuroimaging findings.
- Hypercholesterolemia and older age were associated with PAD on univariate analysis but not in logistic regression.
Conclusions:
- A high prevalence of PAD exists among Asian patients with acute IS.
- PAD is independently associated with non-lacunar infarcts in IS patients.
- Screening for PAD in IS patients, especially those with IHD, may improve cardiovascular risk management.
