A concave and chiral molecule, a C2-symmetric naphthalene fused with two di(phenoxy)phosphino units, was synthesized in three steps. A prepared racemic mixture was successfully separated by chiral HPLC. The absolute structure of enantiomers was determined by X-ray crystallographic analysis and CD spectra. The concave compounds exhibit higher fluorescence quantum yields than the corresponding S-shaped isomers. The chiral concave compound exhibited a relatively high gabs in the CD spectrum.
