Purpose:
Child welfare professionals face high job-related stress, undermining their well-being. Mindfulness-based interventions have shown potential in reducing stress and enhancing well-being. Using secondary data from a mixed-methods evaluation, this study describes the development and pilot implementation of the Wellness and Mindfulness Program (WMP), a mindfulness-based intervention designed to support the well-being of child welfare personnel.
Materials And Methods:
The WMP was delivered to 385 child welfare professionals in Puerto Rico. The intervention consisted of two 6-hour sessions integrating psychoeducation with reflective and experiential activities.
Result:
Pre- and post-intervention assessments indicated significant improvements in awareness and acceptance, self-compassion, subjective well-being, and affective well-being. Effect sizes ranged from small to moderate (d = .19-.43). Satisfaction surveys and qualitative feedback indicate that the program was feasible and well-received, benefiting both participants' work and personal lives.
Discussion:
These findings suggest that the WMP may strengthen workforce well-being and resilience among social service organizations.
