Background:
The Adult Executive Functioning Inventory (ADEXI) is a short self-report instrument assessing executive function. This study validated the psychometric properties of the Mandarin version of the ADEXI (M-ADEXI) in a nonclinical adult sample in Taiwan, including its factor structure, internal consistency, measurement invariance, and concurrent validity.
Methods:
In total, 1833 young adults aged 18-25 years completed an online survey. Three competing factor structure models were examined. Internal consistency, item-to-total correlation, factor loading, and measurement invariance in gender-stratified subgroups were also examined. The concurrent validity of the M-ADEXI was evaluated against several external constructs, namely, depression, anxiety, inattention, and hyperactivity/impulsivity.
Results:
A three-factor model underlying the M-ADEXI was found to be psychometrically sound. The three-factor model was robust to gender. In general, the M-ADEXI has favorable internal consistency, item-to-total correlation, and concurrent validity with the constructs of depression, anxiety, inattention, and hyperactivity/impulsivity.
Conclusion:
The M-ADEXI can be used to assess executive function in nonclinical young adult populations.
