Abstract:
The approach for the diagnosis and management of abdominal masses of solid organ origin is fairly straight forward. However, when the lesion is not of solid organ origin, such as mesenteric/peritoneal, retroperitoneal, adnexal/ovarian, or bowel lesions, the determination of the epicenter is difficult, thus reaching a possible diagnosis becomes challenging. Additionally, percutaneous biopsies of masses at these locations tend to be difficult. An algorithmic approach based on imaging morphology, patient age, and results of supportive investigations such as tumor markers can help in planning effective diagnosis and treatment strategies.
