Genome-wide association study of cardiovascular disease in people with HIV from the Million Veteran Program (MVP)

Abstract:
People with HIV (PWH) experience a twofold higher risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) despite effective antiretroviral therapy. A novel locus on chromosome 2 near NAT8 was associated with CVD in a multiancestry genome-wide association study of 7951 PWH from the Million Veteran Program. This gene is linked to renal function and oxidative stress, both relevant to CVD pathogenesis. Findings highlight the importance of genetic diversity in PWH to elucidate unique genetic risk factors for CVD.
