Abstract:
This study reports a novel disubstituted pillar[5]arene (P[5]A-C12-COO-C9) stationary phase for capillary GC separations. The statically coated P[5]A-C12-COO-C9 capillary column possessed moderate polarity and a column efficiency of 1932 plates/m determined by n-dodecane. We also synthesized two additional disubstituted pillar[5]arene derivatives (P[5]A-C12 and P[5]A-C6-COO-C2). The sharp and symmetrical peaks were obtained when the four homologues were separated on P[5]A-C12-COO-C9 column, which was obviously due to P[5]A-C12, P[5]A-C6-COO-C2 and P[5]A-C4 columns. This finding indicates that P[5]A-C12-COO-C9 column has better film-forming properties than other P[5]A-based columns. And the P[5]A-C12-COO-C9 column exhibited high-resolution capability for the mixture of 17 analytes and aromatic positional isomers with broad polarities. Compared to a commercial HP-5 (5% phenyl methylpolysiloxane) column, it exhibited advantageous performance for challenging isomers of dibromobenzene, chloronitrobenzene, bromonitrobenzene, nitrobenzaldehyde, bromobenzaldehyde, hydroquinone, and ethylphenol.
